Here's a selection of some of my work with a summary of my role and responsibilities across different projects. These highlight the variety of work I've done and please get in touch if you have a project I could help with.
I updated the Marketing Writing course material to reflect current day best practice and include recent examples to show the theory in practice.
As a grader I need to be competent and knowledgeable in the subject matter and be aware of trends, latest advice and practise the topic through my own work too. I grade student unit practices and final coursework submissions so need to give helpful and actionable feedback in a positive and encouraging way.
Being part of the UX Content Collective also gives me other opportunities to contribute such as writing long-form pillar articles for SEO purposes and compiling the bi-weekly jobs newsletter. All of this keeps me informed about the industry and allows me to refine my own skills while helping others with their own career development too.
The editorial work was for three different books and ranged from narrative and structure changes through to proofreading and more minor amends.
It also made use of my Journalism degree and my writing, editing and proofreading skills too. I needed excellent attention to detail to review manuscripts and provide feedback and recommendations on the structure and narrative of the books. I had to consider the intended audience, readability and the application of practical information and examples. I was also required to make sure the language used was inclusive.
A large part of the process was providing feedback to the authors. I had to balance clear and specific advice with also being considerate of the author and their work. I was able to use my previous experience of publishing to advise on logistics and processes for building a self published library.
The work for the charity was over several months and required a mix of stakeholder engagement, sharing best practice and content creation.
I also conducted an analysis of the charity’s content operations. I assessed the people, processes and tools involved with their content planning, creation and measurement. I was able to make recommendations on how to streamline and improve their content ops. I also presented to the team on topics like creating efficient content workflows and using clear language in content.
The project required a lot of communication, research, writing and leadership skills. We set specific goals for content as well as helping the organisation move through a larger change process of digital transformation.
I have worked on 38 episodes across four different seasons. The podcast is one of the most popular in the content and UX industry and attracts thousands of downloads and listens for each episode. As a producer I am responsible for the overall planning, scheduling, editing and publishing of each episode.
I help identify potential guests and topics and then manage the episodes across the entire content lifecycle. From scheduling recordings, ordering transcripts and creating the promo graphics and metadata. I also have editorial autonomy, deciding what should be included and removed from each episode to tell the best story for the audience.
Part of the process also involves working with external suppliers for transcripts and edits. I am responsible for deciding on the titles, writing the episode descriptions and working directly with the guests to get them prepared. Producing the podcast requires editorial, storytelling and production skills. I also need to understand the audience and measure the performance of each episode too.
